Broadcasting our travels

Munich, Day 2

July23

Ruchi and I started early today, beginning with a walk from our hostel to MarienPlatz to catch a bike tour.
The bike tour, run by a company called “Mike’s Bike Tour” was quite the highlight of the day. The tour guide Andy took us all around central Munchen (German name for Munich) and having someone explain all those historic sights was definitely worth the money spent.

Lunch was at the Beer Garden, situated within the English Gardens in the city. The English Gardens are said to be way bigger than Central Park in New York, with a large water canal running through them coming from the river Isar.

Evening continued looking at the Glockenspiel and the popular ceremony depicting the Bavarian king winning the battle each time!

We then ventured to the famous Hofbräuhaus for beer. The place was established in 1589 and has quite a character with live musicians, traditionally dressed waitresses and lockers where their regular customers store their personal Beer mugs to use during visits.

We’re heading to Switzerland tomorrow, so signing off for today.

The journey begins. We’re in Munich, Germany

July22

Finally after weeks of preparation, planning and packing and transitioning our work responsibilities, we boarded our flight to Munich to start our 6 month travel. I guess we must’ve been quite exhausted, since both of us slept through most of the flight. Lufthansa rocks, the new airplane we flew in was great and thanks to Ruchi’s early check-in, we have awesome seats.

Landing the airport, we put our backpacks together and realized how much weight we’d brought along. Organizing them and arranging the weight distribution differently helped a lot. Traveling light isn’t easy. We’ve got a lot to learn.

Munich city welcomed us with rain, was fun getting drenched trying to find our hostel and testing all our fancy waterproof gear! The hostel we’re staying in is very comfortable, clean and central.

Got settled in and went to the Marienplatz for a stroll. The clock tower (Glockenspiel) was beautiful at night. Ended up eating at McDonalds’s fancy McCafe- decent shrimp burger!

It’s 2:00 am at night, we’re dead tired, should be in bed but are trying hard to keep our promise of blogging our trip and sharing our adventures with ya’ll.

Signing off for today, more tomorrow.
